It’s quite unusual that a movie, after its release, is getting updated for its visual effects. Yes, ‘Cats’, an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd’s musical, which was released on Dec 20 is all set to get a visual makeover very soon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With a star-studded cast that includes Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Taylor Swift, and many others, ‘Cats’ has made a mere $6.5 million over the weekend.

Apparently, Universal Studios has sent a memo to the theatres asking to play the updated version once it is sent to the distributors. ‘The King’s Speech’ fame Tom Hooper has directed the 1 hour 49 minutes film with a whopping budget of $100 million and it is now evident why the movie’s opening collection upset the makers into opting for an improvised take on the same.
Well, this isn’t something sudden; ‘Cats’ was heavily trolled way back in July when its trailer got released. While some feel it could have simply been a full-length animated movie, there are others who commented that the characters look creepy. And there was even one user saying the trailer gave him an eye cancer.
Well, better late than never; it was a wise decision to update the visuals but considering the fact that the film hasn’t received a good reputation from both critics and audiences, there is less probability that ‘Cats’ will make it big in the theatres.
