President Donald Trump did more than just taking out an enemy of the United States. The Friday airstrike that killed General Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s military force may have ended any chance that Trump had with ‘get the United States out of the “endless wars” in the Middle East’.
This battle between the US and Iran has reached a new level.
First Iran fired a rocket at a military base killing and wounding few US troops. And then Trump struck back with an airstrike in western Iraq and Syria.
Later, the Iranian militia marched on the US embassy in Baghdad burning the embassy’s reception. So after warning Iran Trump said, If the US is going to war with Iran “wouldn’t last very long” Trump took out Soleimani in an airstrike on Friday.
The Defense Department said in its statement that, “This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans. The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.”
Replying to this airstrike, Iran says that- it is already plotting revenge.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that “harsh retaliation is waiting” for the U.S.
Thousands of worshipers in Tehran took to streets after Friday prayers to condemn the killing and chants “Death to deceitful America”.
The State Department issued an alert urging American citizens to leave Iraq “immediately”.
