Forget celebrities, here’s why the tabloids won’t survive after the coronavirus blow,
Many of the young people in the current generation may not have experienced the impact of what tabloids (the real printed ones) had on the celebrities and the general public. Tabloids were literally the straw that quenched the gossip-hungry minds of the public about the celebrities they follow. The rising costs and diminishing returns have already made most of the tabloids go completely online ending their print versions.
With the coronavirus having made most celebrities stay indoors due to the lockdown, the fallout of it for the tabloids have been quite serious.
- No juicy content exclusive to them anymore – Earlier the celebrities went with their jobs while tabloids spread juicy/steamy news about them, now the celebrities themselves are going about announcing it themselves on their respective social media with tabloid just left to speculate on the why
- Social media controls the narrative – With special status accorded to verified IG and blue birdies the celebrities have more often than not began to interact directly with their fans making tabloids
- Creative explosion – People have afforded their affinity to the hilarity of memes and gifs with fun taking the center stage. The clever ideas packaged in mediocre designs via easy tools have found acceptance and unimaginable viral reach.
It is a matter of time for tabloids to sink into oblivion with a meme funeral.
