The Blonde actress Reese Witherspoon exposed media treatment of herself and Britney Spears and opened up about the various ways the media compared her with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton.
Hollywood veteran Reese revealed how the media’s misogynistic view labeled her as “Good” and celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton as “Bad” in the latest feature with Time magazine.
The 45-year-old actress revealed about both hers and Britney’s life during the beginning of the 2000s. They both went through divorces in November 2006 and were chased by the paparazzi. But both were treated differently.
The Big Little Lies star stated, “My children will tell you stories about being in preschool and people climbing on the roofs of our cars,” she recalled in the story how the media used to follow her during that time. However, Reese points out that while the attention was scary, it was worse for Britney. She then mused just why she and stars like Jennifer Garner were labeled “good,” while Britney and Lindsay Lohan were dubbed “bad.”
She asked, “What if the media had decided I was something else?” and further added. “I would be in a different position. I want to say it’s my decisions or the career choices I made, but it felt very arbitrary. And kind of sh***y.”
The Oscar winner continued, “I’ve been reading all of these articles coming out where they were just saying, like, Britney, Paris [Hilton] and just, like, a group of us were just were treated so unfairly and just, like, this misogynistic view and just being very cruel and mean and making fun of us. It made me think a lot this week, reading all these new things that are coming out after the Britney film.”
The actress opened up how she has been followed to school, church, and soccer practice, not only that there was a car parked outside of her home with cameras to capture her kitchen window view. She continued by recalling incidents where she would shout at photographers, but filming those videos may affect her reputation the same way it did with other stars.
