Depp is back in action, and Amber Heard is currently scrambling away with her alimony. Here is why the Virginia judge has no intention to dismiss the defamation case of Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp had filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million 2 years ago after settling the $25 million alimony for their divorce. Heard has revealed to the media that Depp was a ‘wife-beater’ and had publicly asked him to get mental help during their ugly divorce. ‘The Sun,’ a British Tabloid, published this rumor. At present, both Heard and tabloid are facing the wrath of the Pirate.
The London Judge terminated the divorce saying, that The Sun branding Depp as a “wife-beater” was not libelous and, most of Heard’s abuse allegations can be proved easily. Her not proving the allegations made the case more speculative.
Amber had revealed the abuse she faced just a couple of months before releasing her article on abused women in “The Washington Post,” published in Virginia. Depp immediately filed the suit that said, “Ms. Heard is not a victim of domestic abuse; she is a perpetrator.”
The Virginia judge, Azcarate, ruled on Tuesday that “If anything, upholding English libel judgments in the United States would create the chilling effect and could create a dangerous precedent. Accordingly, this Court is unpersuaded by Defendant’s argument.” Thus, he ruled out Heard’s request to dismiss the defamation case against her and The Sun. The suit is set to hear on 11th April 2022.
