“What the f–k did you do, Ava?”Jimmy asks Ava as season 1 of “Hacks” ends. Here is a small recap of the rollercoaster life of the comedy duo Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels.
Deborah, a boomer generation comedian with her entire career on the line, appoints Ava, a GenZ internet sensation, to write her new scripts for her upcoming 2500th show at the Palmetto.
The dark mentorship, abusive language, generation gap, audience interests, ideas, financial needs, fear, anger, and constant doubts from wanting more to not knowing what ‘more’ is, the show sets a new outlook on the lives of celebrities.
The show keeps the audience engaged with a constant “will they or won’t they” question hanging at the end of every episode with the unlikely pair’s inability to express their interest and recognition of each other’s talent.
The season finale begins with Vance and Daniels having a screaming match with each other that causes Ava to let out a few details about her mentor to the “Very British Duo,” who are out to dig dirt about Deborah to write their new show on the lives of tyrannical females.
It ends with the comedy duo having a heartfelt convo at Ava’s father’s funeral before tension skyrocketed again, setting the pace for season 2.
