Game of Thrones is over and I don’t have a purpose in life anymore.
Needless to say, despite all the hate and cynicism, the epic show is finally done with and fans all over the world are in a show hole, i.e when you finish a series with an empty feeling creeping in, clueless on what to do next. I’ve experienced show hole many times– the last episode of The Office, Mad Men, Lost (though it sucked), and the latest being Game of Thrones.
Out of curiosity, I wanted to keep the Targerian fire burning in me and decided to check the book, A song of ice and fire, the book by George RR Martin on which the series was based on. And after some research, I found that the author’s portrayal of characters is far different from what was shown in the series.
1. Night Walkers
Nightwalkers are supposed to be beautiful creatures with blue eyes. In the show, they just look hideous.
2. Cersei Lannister
Cersei is supposed to be the most beautiful woman in Westeros even more than Dany. She is someone who makes people do what she wants, especially the dirty work by mesmerizing them with her beauty. Lena Heady’s acting is brilliant as she portrays a wide range of emotions with her facial expressions. But in terms of looks, she is nothing close to the books.
3. Catelyn Stark
She’s supposed to be pretty and look like Sansa.
However, in the Show Catelyn looks old to play Catelyn. And also, she doesn’t bear any resemblance to Sansa.
4. Rhaegar Targaryen
He’s so handsome in the books that even young Cersei got “drowned” in his purple eyes. In the show, he looks dumb.
5. Missandei
Okay, she might look like Selena Gomez but it’s just representative. She’s a kid in the books. Missandei in the show is way too old. And her romance with GreyWorm was unnecessary.
6. Robert Baratheon
I imagined his older version to be somewhat like this. He was a handsome man in his youth.
7. Jon Snow
Jon is supposed to be tall and skinny. He has Grey eyes and a long face. Kit Harrington is too pretty and sturdy to play Jon.
8. Brienne
Brienne is actually way younger to Jaime. When we are first introduced to her, she’s only 18 while Jaime is 32. Also, she looks hideous but her eyes are pretty. Gwendoline is way too old and not anywhere near hideous.
9. Sandor Clegane
He’s only 26 in the books. Much younger compared to what he is in the show. He doesn’t use any cuss words either.
