Actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life in prison, as the ‘Riverdale’ actor killed his own mother, Barbara Waite, in 2020.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to his action and so has been charged with second-degree murder from the previous first-degree murder.
Ryan, who acted as ‘Jeffery Augustine’ in the teen drama Riverdale, was imprisoned at British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver on Wednesday.
The actor told the prosecutors, “I killed my mother.” In a video taken on his camera after the murder, Grantham filmed his mother’s body while saying, “I shot her in the back of the head. In the moments after, she would have known it was me.”
The court heard that the actor had killed his mother as she played piano in their home in Vancouver.
The actor drank beer and smoked marijuana for hours following the murder, after which he filled his car with three guns, ammunition, and 12 Molotov cocktails he had made, and started moving to Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Rideau Cottage residence. The actor after driving for roughly 200 kilometers east to the town of Hope decided to go to the Vancouver police station and admitted that he killed his mother.
The Prosecutors said Ryan had also plotted to kill Canadian PM after hearing the actor’s statement.
The actor cannot apply for parole too for the first 14 years of his life sentence.
