Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter has filed a counter-lawsuit for $2.3 million against those who accused him of sexual assault. The lawsuit now by Carter is against Melissa Schuman and her father for the allegations placed about the singer assaulting her at his home. The countersuit is also against Shannon Ruth, stating “defame and vilify Carter and otherwise ruin his reputation for the purposes of garnering attention and fame and/or extorting money from Carter.” From the singer’s end, these allegations are seen as a means of misusing the #MeToo movement.
The two women who filed sexual battery against Carter called him out for forced sexual activity and harassment, which is now denied in the suit by him. Ruth, who has conditions like autism and cerebral palsy is also involved in standing against Carter, which the countersuit reads her involvement as “a vulnerable and highly impressionable individual, craving attention and desperate to fit in.”
“Just as true victims of sexual assault have the right to seek justice and be heard, so too do persons falsely accused of sexual assault have the right to due process of law and to defend themselves by speaking the truth,” making the intention of the countersuit clear.
Rape Allegations On Nick Carter
Backstreet singer is alleged of raping a minor person with autism
Nick Carter opposes the accusations that he sexually assaulted a young person with autism in 2001. Shannon Shay Ruth filed the case on her behalf, alleging that Nick had sexually assaulted her on the tour bus and demanded for oral sex.
“This claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue. Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick — and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time,” said Nick’s attorney Michael Holtz in a statement.
She said that she was only 17 years old when Nick sexually assaulted her during the press conference on December 8. Additionally, she allegedly claims that she developed a STI (sexually transmitted infection) as a result of the alleged rape. She continued to accuse Nick of forcing her to remain mum and giving her the impression that if she spoke up, she may end up in jail.
“The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame, and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me. Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me. After he raped me, I remember him calling me a ‘re—ed bitch’ and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm,” With a tears in her eye, Shay stated during the press conference.
