Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery received widespread attention from Hollywood as Director Rian Johnson planted mind-blowing Easter eggs in every frame possible. As a sequel to the Academy Award nominee Knives Out, the film came out with high expectations. Luckily, Glass Onion seemed to satisfy the audience with its dynamic storyline, star-studded cast, and of course, Easter eggs! Although fans were able to find out some of them, there are several other missed details that were right under our noses. Here are the 10 Easter eggs you could’ve missed while watching Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
10. The film’s tribute to The Beatles
Johnson, being a huge Beatles fan, included the band’s Glass Onion song in the movie, hiding it in plain sight, quite literally! Some artifacts decorating Miles Bron’s (Edward Norton) mansion were derived from the song.
9. Derol
Many of you might have wondered if Derol from Glass Onion seemed familiar. He indeed is! The random hippy was police officer Trooper Wagner in Knives Out!
8. The foreshadowing
We see Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc playing Among Us in his bathtub as the movie introduces him. That is some brilliant foreshadowing as the Glass Onion later introduces Miles’ murder mystery game.
7. Gillian Flynn
Apparently, Miles hired Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn to design his murder mystery game for his friends to solve. He also spectacularly mispronounces the famed author’s name in the film, adding to his dumb personality.
6. Tom Cruise’s Magnolia costume
It was Edward Norton who pitched the idea here. Given Miles Bron’s unoriginal personality, Norton suggested that his character would copy the looks of Tom Cruise from the 1999 film Magnolia, and it worked!
5. Benoit Blanc is “queer”
Hugh Grant’s iconic cameo left fans with one question and Director Rian Johnson confirmed that detective Benoit Blanc is queer.
4. Gravity’s Rainbow
This is a reference from the first film where Blanc talks about the Pulitzer Prize-winning book written by Thomas Pynchon.
3. A Fight Club reference
Fans saw a glimpse of Miles’ shirtless portrait inside Glass Onion, but well, the movie was full of surprises. The portrait was Edward Norton’s face in Brad Pitt’s shirtless body from Fight Club.
2. Kanye West portrait
It is one of the most notable details in which the rapper looks like a Roman senator in a toge.
1. The star-studded cameos
Apart from the remarkable cast, there were several fantastic cameos that left fans mindblown. Here are some of the great cameos of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery:
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the hourly bong voice
- Ethan Hawke as Bron’s employee
- Hugh Grant as Philip
- Jeremy Renner referred to as the owner of a hot sauce company
- Angela Lansbury, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Stephen Sondheim, and Natasha Lyonne as Among Us players
- Serena Williams as herself
