Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois is going to write, direct, and produce the live-action feature adaptation of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ franchise. Universal/DreamWorks animation is going to get a new form on the big screen. How to Train Your Dragon is based on the book series written by Cressida Cowell.
The new project is planned for release on March 14, 2025.
In the first part of How to Train Your Dragon, Hiccup the young Viking tries hard and aspires to become a dragon hunter. The story takes a turn when he befriends the young strong dragon, Toothless- Nightfury. He is amazed to learn more about the creatures than what is actually presumed by his ancestor and society. The animated franchise has come with three movies with more than $1.6 billion.
The series was nominated for four Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award for the second filmed chapter.
DeBlois and Chris Sanders wrote and directed the first movie and the second and third were solely in hands of DeBlois. This will be Deblois’s live-action debut movie.
The biggest challenge the creative side will face is bringing out the dragons to be friendly and realistic.
Three times Best Picture Oscar nominee, Marc Platt (La La Land, Bridge of Spies, Trial Of The Chicago 7) will be producing this upcoming feature film.
