Constructing the world’s largest statue isn’t that easy of a task and it is great to see India once again proving its efficiency in the global arena. Yes, a massive structure of one of the country’s greatest freedom fighters, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is in the making with an awe-inspiring 182m at an estimated cost of 29.9 billion rupees. Named the “Statue of Unity”, the bronze wonder is being built as an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and makes its enormous presence in the state of Gujarat, nearly 200 km from the state capital Ahmadabad. As per stats, India’s project undoubtedly beats China’s Spring Temple Buddha which currently reigns as the world’s largest statue at 128 m.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of independent India and is lauded for his immense contribution in the country’s freedom struggle. His views and steps towards national integration earned him the title “Iron Man of India”. Being born in the statue of Gujarat, there couldn’t have been a better way to pay tribute to the great leader.
The monumental statue is said to have galleries for the public to visit and is sure to become a tourist attraction as well. As finishing touches are being done by thousands of workers, the statue will get its grand opening on October 31st by the PM himself.
