Aquaman 2 is happening for real, but it’s going to be a long wait until we see Jason Momoa donning the title role. Warner Bros. announced that the sequel would be released on Dec. 16, 2022.
The news follows Aquaman racking up $1.1 billion at the global box office since its December release making it the highest-grossing DCEU film only next to Gal Gadot starring in Wonder Woman.

In addition to the official Aquaman sequel, the studios are also planning a horror movie about The Trench kingdom (the underworld gnarly monsters that attacked Aquaman the film). The Trench is expected to have a new director and standalone cast.
The DC universe has an impressive roster of superhero movies in their lineup with Shazam!, starring Zachary Levi, is out April 5 and Joker, a stand-alone story starring Joaquin Phoenix releasing Oct. 4, 2019.
It also has standalone movies focusing on female leads like Margot Robbie starring in Birds of Prey and Gal Gadot reprising her role as Wonderwoman in Wonder Woman 1984.
Even Suicide Squad is getting a sequel amidst talks of Will Smith pulling off from the franchise.
Many DC movies are being greenlighted for release this year and look promising enough to give a stiff competition to its rival– Marvel.
