A 24-year-old woman from India, took her own life on the short-video making app TikTok. The young mother of two was often scolded by her husband who prevented her from using TikTok.
Apparently, she was so addicted to the app that in a fit of rage, she gulped down a bottle of poison breaking down, coughing to death. She made sure that she captured the entire incident on Video and sent it to her husband who happens to be working in Singapore.
When the husband scolded his wife for her TikTok addiction, she consumed poison and committed suicide on the short video sharing platform.
The incident has attracted massive criticism online with media outlets publishing the video on TouTube, with the comments section disabled. This incident took place on Thursday.
This is not the first time someone’s death has been linked to TikTok.
Earlier in January, a Mumbai-based 15-year-old hanged herself at home on her birthday after her grandmother scolded her for constantly being glued to TikTok. In April, another 19-year-old Indian based out of Delhi was shot while trying to film a video on TikTok.
The app was banned in India, with Android and Apple pulling off the app from their store, but the ban was soon lifted.
TikTok has over 150 million active monthly users just in India.
