Authorities have already issued a notice to 7.3 million people for a non-compulsory evacuation. The Typhoon Hagibis reportedly made landfall on the south coast on Saturday, causing enormous disruption and livelihood of millions of Japanese people.
All the commuting flights are grounded in the Tokyo region and there’s no further notice on when the services will resume.
It crashed into Japan’s main Honshu island at 7:00 pm before barrelling into Izu, a peninsula southwest of Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The storm claimed its first victim hours before arriving on the coast when strong winds from its outer bands flipped a car in Chiba east of Tokyo and killed the driver.
‘Unprecedented heavy rain has been seen in cities, towns, and villages for which the emergency warning was issued,’ JMA forecaster Yasushi Kajiwara said.
