If you think you are having a hard time with your boss, you must definitely watch this movie. This film is about a girl and her extremely difficult employer and it will make you realize that you have an extremely understanding and kind boss! It is based on the book of the same name written by Lauren Weisberger. Let’s take a look at the movie and its characters.
Andrea Sachs is a girl who is fresh out of college and is hunting for a job. She gets called for an interview at “Runway,” a job for which “a million girls would die.” Miranda Priestly, the highly popular and successful editor of Runway magazine, hires Andrea Sachs as one of her assistants. Anne Hathaway plays the role of Andrea Sachs and Meryl Streep portrays the part of Miranda Priestly.
Andrea (Andy) finds herself in the soup right from her first day at the office. Apart from the never-ending office tasks she has to perform, she is also made to run personal errands by Miranda. Miranda wants her assistant to get her twins the yet-to-be-published copies of the Harry Potter series and wants her breakfast right on her table before she arrives. Moreover, Andrea gets mocked about her sense of dressing, which is neither trendy nor fashionable. Gradually, as Andrea gets used to the job and the multifarious tasks assigned by Miranda, she evolves into a more fashionable and stylish girl with expensive outfits. But she starts to spend less time with her friends and her boyfriend. The relationship between Andrea and her boyfriend also gets strained because everyone (apart from those at her office) feels that she has changed a lot.
While Andrea gets immersed in the intricate details of the fashion magazine and runs errands for Miranda Priestly, she also gets involved in a short romantic relationship with a man from the field of fashion. She gets to see Paris in all its splendor along with her boss when they visit the city for Paris Fashion Week. Everything about her is Armani, Versace, Prada, and Gucci. But the newly-found happiness doesn’t last. Andy soon realizes that she is not part of something that she loves. She finds out that she is slowly losing her values and is going through a metamorphosis into a person who is not her own self. Constantly being at the beck and call of her boss suddenly turns meaningless.
Andy decides that she has to quit her job at Runway, which she does at the end of the movie. She meets her boyfriend at a restaurant and tells him that she’s going to attend interviews for other jobs. They make peace and Andy gets back to a more meaningful life. She gears up to lead a better life with her friends and family. All’s well that ends well!
As for Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt (another assistant of Miranda), and others, they have certainly done a good job.
