Oprah Winfrey is one of the most famous personalities in the world. Her name is often used in TV shows and movies to illustrate positivity. She established her greatness as an actress, TV show host, philanthropist, producer, motivational speaker, and more.
Oprah’s early life was a tragedy. As her mother was a single teenager, Oprah moved to live with her grandparents. She was raped by an older cousin during her childhood. She ran away from home to escape sexual abuse. Poor Oprah became pregnant and gave birth to a premature baby who died shortly after birth.
During her teens, Oprah started living with her father in Nashville. She won the Miss Black Tennesse beauty pageant in 1971.
Winfrey started her career while she was studying in high school. She was the youngest news co-anchor in Nashville’s WLAC-TV. Admirably, she was the first black woman hired for that role.
Winfrey was first nominated for her debut role in “The Colour Purple.” Thirty years later, she got a nomination for Best Picture, but unexpectedly Birdman won the category.
Oprah received the most prestigious award – the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Obama in 2013. He praised her for her undying “You can” spirit.
