Amanda Barclay is leaving the Disney TV studio to join Netflix as Director of Comedy Originals. She will be replacing Robert Prinz, who has left Netflix after four years, Prinz developed series including Family Reunion, The Crew, and Country Comfort.
Barclay is the second ABC executive to join Netflix. Lisa Lang Mcmullen, ABC executive, recently moved to Netflix after a 12-year run. Lisa now serves as a director on Jimmy Howe’s drama development team. Barclay was the executive director of ABC Signature Studios. She developed series such as Adopted, Black Don’t Crack, and Homo Economics. Before joining ABC Signature Barclay was a current development exec at YouTube Premium where she developed Original series including Kobra kai and Wayne. Barcley also worked at MTV as executive president of programming by supporting the scripted and unscripted teams for three years.
Netflix is planning to launch new seasons of original such as Sex Education, Virgin River, La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) in the third quarter of this year. Netflix said that it will move into gaming because of the fall in the subscription in North America. It is also said that Mindy Kaling and Elaine Ko have been commissioned by Netflix to create a 10-part workplace comedy based on the US basketball team- The LA Lakers. Bajara after taking on the top role in Netflix has been refocusing the steamer’s Originals and has canceled many comedies.
