Japanese Drama ‘Drive My Car’ Wins International Critics’ Prize

The movie also won the best international feature film award at the Oscars 2022.

Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Japanese drama won one more award. This time, it’s from the members of the International Federation of Film Critics. The movie is inspired by a short story written by renowned Japanese writer Haruki Murakami and revolves around a playwright and his female chauffeur.

This slow-burning movie was premiered last year in Cannes where it grabbed best screenplay honors and the prestigious Cannes Fipresci prize.

The movie also won the best international feature film award at the Oscars 2022.

Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, Ruben Östlund’s 2022 Palme d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness, as well as Joaquim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World were the finalists for the Fibresci and ‘Drive My Car’ beat them all to grab this award.
