Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Rules Thanksgiving Box Office; Glass Onion Stays a Mystery

Sequel to the 2018 Marvel Studios’ massive hit has been dominating the box office since its release

It is safe to say that Marvel Studios is back at the domination game at the box office. With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11, the film reached its third week with a massive domestic box office of $561 million.

The film continued to rule this Thanksgiving weekend, expecting to receive $60 to $62 million during the five-day festive season.

Netflix, in a rare move, did a limited one-week theatrical release of its upcoming mystery-drama, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery during this holiday season. The streaming giant wouldn’t report the film’s earnings but estimates say the sequel might earn around $13 million.

But the overall Thanksgiving vibe at the movies is absent. Even with several other releases like Disney’s Strange World, Devotion, The Fabelmans, and Bones and All, the box office seemed to underperform during this five-day extended holiday period.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Becomes Second Biggest Box-Office Opening of 2022

Sequel to the highly-anticipated Marvel franchise dominated the global box office with a whopping $330 million

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) last and most-awaited movie of 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, hit theaters late last week, grossing over $180 million at the domestic box office. With the majestic debut, the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther became the second biggest box office opening.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s debut comes after its fellow Marvel project, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which secured a massive $187 million in its opening weekend.

The sequel had high hopes and expectations from fans, along with the huge burden to honor Chadwick Boseman’s legacy. Boseman, who took the legendary Black Panther mantle as King T’Challa, passed away due to colon cancer in 2020.

It was a wise choice of Marvel Studios to not recast the actor and made another character take up the mantle. Wakanda Forever delivered everything it wanted, making its way to becoming one of the best films in the MCU.

The film was a powerful and phenomenal tribute to Chadwick Boseman, and the way the cast carried out the task was overwhelming. With the original cast taking up new responsibilities and the new characters setting up the bar high, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought back the MCU’s glorified days of the Infinity Saga.

Ryan Coogler Reveals Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Original Story Before Chadwick Boseman’s Death

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would’ve been very different if it weren’t for Chadwick Boseman’s death

Ever since his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, Chadwick Boseman rose to fame as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) biggest superheroes in the Infinity Saga. The character’s popularity rose to its peak following his solo film Black Panther (2018) and appeared alongside the superhero ensemble in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Fans rejoiced over the announcement of a Black Panther sequel, but the initial idea never saw the light as Chadick Boseman passed away in 2020 from colon cancer, which he fought secretly for four years. Taking the leap, Marvel Studios and Director Ryan Coogler decided not to recast Boseman and carry on the franchise with other prominent characters including Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, and M’Baku.

And it’s working! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now one of the most anticipated films in 2022 and the film that concludes Phase 4 of the MCU. The film would deal with the character’s loss and balance the emotional and action elements.

With the movie just days from its big screen debut, Director Ryan Coogler revealed the original idea for Black Panther 2. The one that was developed before Boseman’s passing. Coogler revealed that the story would’ve dealt more with King T’Challa aka Black Panther’s character.

The initial script “was very much rooted in T’Challa’s perspective” and the “massive movie.” will have “a character study that delved deeply into [T’Challa’s] psyche and situation.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters on November 11, 2022.

Black Panther Has Redefined Black Community With Chadwick Boseman!

It has been a year of tragedy across the globe with the ongoing pandemic and to add more it has been devastating for the Black community.

It has been a year of tragedy across the globe with the ongoing pandemic and to add more it has been devastating for the Black community. From losing black legends like Kobe Bryant to Chadwick till now the lamentations are never ending.

Back before 2 years, it was all blissful and entertaining embracing our arms in X-shape paying tribute to Malcolm, and enjoying the story of a kingdom were every individual living there is royal. Wakanda was always never to return. But now in reality it has been a state of shock and sadness after the demise of the king.

Every social media platform has been witnessing tears and heartbreaks and when the news of the death of Chadwick broke yesterday like many other black men this 2020 it has been anguish in the black community.

Several incidents in Chadwick’s film career revealed these secrets of Afro-American glory and how powerful they have to be to survive and surpass racial inequality. Like the characters of Jackie Robinson in Marshall, James Brown in getting on Up, etc. Chadwick ruled in the movie. It went on to be a box office hit making him the king in his story and in the real world.
