Bob Thornton Shares his Experience with Heath Ledger in Monster Ball

The movie Monster Ball has some major scenes that anyone could have expected. 2001 dark film had a star cast of Billy Bob Thornton who portrayed as a prison guard Hank and Heath Ledger as his son and his co-guard sonny.

In a specific part of the film, Sonny melts down while taking a prisoner for sentence and Hank gets furious and calls him weak. The situation gets heated up and they fight. Bob remembers the scene on a talk show stating the experience while filming.

He stated that: “That scene right there, I was really hitting Heath.”  “And he asked me to. I said, ‘Now listen, I’m a little more of a veteran than you. When I was a young actor I used to ask people to hit me and it hurts.’ I said, ‘I’ll do it if you want me to,’ and he said, “Please.” He said he needed it. And I was hitting him pretty hard.”

The movie was an emotional sad story that touched the hearts of fans as it talked about race and abuse. He went to add saying: “I did not stay in character all the time.” “That would have been really hard on a person.”

Thornton is now on Season 3 Goliath premiering in Amazon Prime.
