The credit card details, phone numbers, addresses and identity cards of nearly 100 German politicians were hacked and posted on an anonymous Twitter account. MPs belonging to all major parties including those of the Linke turned out to be the victims of the incident that’s still under investigation. While the intention of the hackers is still not known, the internal network of Germany’s government seems to be secure. Being the largest security breach the country has ever been through, the data was made online in a series of posts. “It’s a very elaborately done social engineering attack”, says Simon Hegelich, a political scientist at Munich’s Technical University.
