The renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino shares his experience watching the movie movie ‘Joker’ directed by Todd Phillips for the first time. He said that “Everybody is completely plugged in” to their seats in the cinema theatres. He also made a funny comment on those who watched the movie at home. “You got a handjob as opposed to a threesome” if you watch the film at home, he said.
He cherished the feeling he had while watching the special three-hour movie podcast with Edgar Wright for Empire. He noted Joaquin Phoenix’s climax scene where he threatens a talk show host, played by Robert De Niro, Tarantino said “You [could] feel the entire atmosphere in the theatre change.”
“It’s not suspense, it’s beyond suspense,” he continued. “They are riveted. Everybody is completely plugged in. If you saw this movie on an airplane, if you watch this movie streaming, if you watch this movie on DVD, you didn’t fucking see the movie.”
“You got a handjob as opposed to having great sex. You got a handjob as opposed to a threesome.”
“The thing that’s profound is this: it’s not just suspenseful, it’s not just riveting and exciting, the director subverts the audience.”
“Because the Joker is a fucking nut. The guy is a fucking nut. Robert De Niro’s talk show character is not a movie villain. He seems like an asshole but he’s not any more of an asshole than David Letterman. He doesn’t deserve to die.”
“Yet, while the audience in a movie theatre is watching Joker, they wanted to kill Robert De Niro. They wanted to take the gun and stick it in his eye and blow the back of his fucking head off.”

Does this new milestone once again increase the chance of Joaquin Phoenix to win Oscar?
By the time you’re reading this, the movie Joker would’ve passed the box-office collection of Deadpool which is whooping $782.6 million and will set a new box-office record of R-rated movies of all time.
Joker earned $2.4 million on Thursday, bringing its 21-day total to $258.675 million. Presuming it doesn’t drop dead today, it’ll pass Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($259 million in 2014), The Amazing Spider-Man ($262 million in 2012) by tonight. The film had $778 million worldwide as of Wednesday, meaning a new 32.9/66.1 domestic/overseas split. And provided it maintains (or surpasses) the current split, it has now earned $785.5 million worldwide. That’ll put it right above Deadpool ($782.6 million in 2016) and Deadpool 2 ($785.05 million in 2018). So, yes, Joker is now the biggest R-rated movie of all time, sans inflation.
This new milestone once again increases the chance of Joaquin Phoenix, the three-time nominee for Oscar Award has a strong chance at finally winning. And, he is surely a deserving actor to crown the prestigious award.
