Candian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his shock and disappointment over the recent attack on Capitol Hill by the rioters “incited” by Donald Trump. In a press briefing, he said that
“What we witnessed was an assault on democracy by violent rioters, incited by the current president and other politicians. As shocking, deeply disturbing, and frankly saddening as that event remains, we have also seen this week that democracy is resilient in America, our closest ally and neighbor. Violence has no place in our societies, and extremists will not succeed in overruling the will of the people.”
“We will stop the steal. We know that even as we watch with extreme concern everything unfolding in the United States over these past few days … we are not immune to that in Canada. We have a responsibility as Canadians to continue to lead with respect, to engage substantially with different points of view, and to never resort to violence as a way of impacting public discourse. That is something that Canadians have recommitted to across the country over these past days and we will continue to be extremely vigilant to remember that the choices we make as leaders, like politicians, have consequences.”
“We strongly denounce organizations, such as the Proud Boys, who advance misogynistic, white supremacist beliefs, and glorify violence. Intolerance and hate have no place in our society,” she said in a media statement.
“Our greatest responsibility is keeping Canadians safe. To fulfil that responsibility, our government and agencies must keep pace with evolving threats and global trends, such as white supremacy.”
“The listing demonstrates that our security agencies are alert to evolving threats and will not hesitate to take necessary action. The listing process is always ongoing and when an organization has been found to meet the Criminal Code threshold, they will be added.”
March 2020
Canada’s first lady Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau has been affected by Corona and this was officially confirmed on 12th March. She stated that: “First I’d like to say a big thank you to all of you who have reached out to me asking how I’m doing,” she said in a statement. “Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon.” She added, “Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns.”
Further Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also decided to restrict himself post the spread of Corona worldwide. Sophie started having “mild signs” of the disease on Wednesday post her visit from the U.K as per the statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
Though the results are yet to be revealed the power couples are self-restricting by being inside their home until everything is alright. But fortunately the prime minister has not shown any signs of the deadly disease. Besides, there are reports of about 137 people affected by COVID-19 in the country including one death. On the whole, there are about 133,039 people affected worldwide by the virus.
Despite Doctors stating that Justin can carry on with his routine duties, he has opted to work from home “out of an abundance of caution.” Both the prime minister and his wife is said to have symptoms of flu and mild fever when they were back from London. However, Sophie’s signs of the virus have been subsiding as per reports.
Besides them, the other person affected is the New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh.
Jagmeet has stated that though his symptoms are not constant he is advised by doctors to “limit contact with the public until he feels better.” Adding to this he said that: “All of us come into contact with many people who may be vulnerable to illness – we have to make sure we are taking measures to limit the chance that we infect them. Looking forward to being back at work and feeling better soon.”
