Senator Kirsten Gillibrand just announced that she’ll be running for president in 2020, in an interview with Stephen Colbert. She will join her other female Democratic candidates, Senator Elizabeth Warren, 69, of Massachusetts, and U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, 37, of Hawaii. During the interview, she made it clear that she’s determined to beat President Donald Trump to not only to become the first female U.S. president but to also make the difference the country so desperately needs.

In the interview, she went on to give her reasoning for her historic decision.”As a young mom, I’m going to fight for other people’s kids as hard as I would fight for my own which is why I believe that healthcare should be a right and not a privilege,” she explained. “It’s why I believe we should have better public schools for our kids because it shouldn’t matter what block you grow up on and I believe that anybody who wants to work hard enough should be able to get whatever job training they need to earn their way into the middle class.”
Kirsten took to Twitter to explain her decision further saying, “Now is our time to raise our voices and get off the sidelines,”.
Kirsten’s presidential run is very exciting to many but there may be another U.S. Senator added to the list soon. Senator Kamala Harris, 54, of California may announce a run for the 2020 election on or around Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 21, according to ABC News. If Sen. Harris does enter the race, she will be the third U.S. Senator in the election and the fourth woman.
