Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Gets Married

Nobel Laureate and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai tied the knot with Asser at her home, following a small ceremony in the UK’s Birmingham on Tuesday. The women’s rights campaigner gained international recognition for her activism against the Taliban’s actions to stop girls from getting an education in school in Pakistan. She happily announced her wedding on Twitter. The 24-year-old shared a glimpse of her big day, and the pictures featured herself along with husband Asser Malik and family members. Her husband is a general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s High-Performance Centre.

She tweeted, “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

Previously, Yousafzai spoke about marriage to an international fashion magazine that became a dispute. In an interview with Vogue magazine in June, she said “If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?.”

At 15, she was shot by a member of the Taliban in the head. She underwent treatment in October 2012 in the UK. In 2014, she received the Nobel Prize for Peace at the age of 17, making her the youngest Nobel prize laureate. She shared the Nobel prize with another activist Kailash Satyarthi. She graduated from Oxford University in Philosophy, Economics, and Politics last year.
