Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff starring Margot Robbie is off the Table at Disney
The “Birds of Prey” star said the female-led movie is dead at Disney
Australian actress Margot Robbie said the female-led “Pirates of the Caribbean” spinoff has been scrapped by Disney. The project was announced in June 2020, with Robbie joining again with her “Birds of Prey” writer Christina Hodson but looks like the project would never see the light.
“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Margot Robbie told Vanity Fair.
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood with five films grossing over $4.5 billion at the box office. The franchise gained huge popularity in its first film, thanks to Johnny Depp’s performance as Captain Jack Sparrow. Fans became fascinated by the concept of pirates and treasures, adding more to its success.
Canceling the Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff is a disappointment for Margot Robbie fans, but it is safe to say that the actress is ready to stun Hollywood in her upcoming project. Robbie’s upcoming “Babylon,” starring Brad Pitt, and Tobey Maguire, directed by La La Land’s Damien Chazelle, hits theaters on December 23.

The 73rd British Academy Film Awards is all set to raise the curtains on Feb 2, 2020, and we have some of the most tremendous Hollywood performers waiting to bag their awards this year. Among them is Margot Robbie who has been nominated twice under the same category. The 29-year old stunner’s name has been proposed for the best-supporting actor for two of her films, Bombshell and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Margot Robbie played the role of Associate Producer Kayla Pospisil of Fox News in the movie Bombshell and showed her acting brilliance as Sharon Tate in the latter. Apart from the Australian actress, Scarlett Johansson is another celeb who has been nominated twice under the same category. While the ladies truly deserve their nominations, Twitter raged with anger when they found out there was not even one woman or man of color on the list. People soon started tweeting about how racist the Academy is for ignoring some of the best talents such as Awkwafina, JLo, and Cynthia Erivo in the nominations.
The #BaftasSoWhite started trending soon after the list was out. “Those BAFTA nominations are beyond a joke. It’s not funny to ignore the creative efforts of women and PoC artists. It’s not a hashtag. It’s another reminder that this industry does not welcome or want us and does not think we are good enough”, tweeted Nadia Latif, a film director.
