Michaela DePrince, Boston Ballet’s principal soloist, has passed away at 29. And, the dance world is currently mourning this tragic loss. Her death was confirmed via her official Instagram account, but we don’t yet know the cause of death. 

 

Born in Sierra Leone in 1995, Michaela became an orphan at a tender age, after both her parents died during the Sierra Leone Civil War. She was then sent to an orphanage, but when she became 4, she was adopted by an American family. Her sister, Mia, was also adopted with her. 

When Michaela was very young, she saw a picture of a beautiful ballerina, which made her choose her career at a later stage. Throughout her life, Michaela has been a tremendous inspiration to lots of people.

The DePrince family’s words on announcing Michaela’s death, were: “It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful sister, Michaela Mabinty DePrince.” They expressed their grief over the loss with the words, “Michaela touched so many lives across the world, including ours. She was an unforgettable inspiration to everyone who knew her or heard her story.”

Michaela’s sister, Mia, has also expressed profound grief over the loss. She has stated that Michaela was always on the path of conquering her dreams. She added that the dancer has left her footprints in the sand, and she will truly be missed by all.

Boston Ballet also wrote on Instagram that they were glad to have known Michaela. They said she was a beautiful person and a wonderful dancer. 

While reading this post, you might wonder what caused Michaela’s sudden death at such an early age. However, so far, the cause of death has not been shared by her family or friends.
