Netflix is in trouble again.
Netflix released a Christmas comedy sketch on their streaming platform that was created by Porta dos Fundos, a Brazilian YouTube comedy group. Titled “The First Temptation of Christ”, it portrays Jesus as gay and Mary puffing weed.
The Brazilian skit has sparked huge outrage that an online petition demanding its cancellation has garnered 2 million signatures.
The satirical take on Jesus is 46 minute long and narrates Jesus’s homecoming to his birthday party with his way too close friend Orlando. A seemingly gay Jesus tries to keep matters into the closet until Orlando sings a crazy holiday song whose lyrics read something like– “In the heat of the desert I saw the size of his huge power.”
Wow.
The petioners are vying for legal action against the comedy channel on grounds of religious discrimination. It mentions, “derision and disrespect for the faith of the Catholic Church and especially for God.” They are seeking an official apology from Netflix and Porta dos Fundos.
