Netflix made history with its new series a couple of weeks back with a whopping number of 45 million subscribers streamed in to watch the much-acclaimed thriller Bird Box starring Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock. Once after its record-making viewership Netflix had to announce a public health warning “Don’t try it at home”!
So what’s social media went crazy this time is the Bird Box Challenge. The fans need to imitate the role of the starlet in the thriller series and do the entire regular tasks shutting their eyes. There were around a thousand such videos that went viral in social media in which blindfolded people were seen stumbling over things and tripping themselves.
“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” Netflix tweeted. “We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl” – a reference to the two unnamed children of Bullock’s character – “have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”
That’s a warning at the right time because some people tried the challenge with heavy weapons like guns. We suggest our viewers stay away from such social fads to stay safe. Please share your views on this.
