Despite controversies, Green Book went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Green Book is a good enough film, but not definitely an Oscar film.
The film stars Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen and centers a black pianist and his white chauffeur as they navigate the racist territory of Deep South using the safe African American travelers guide, The Negro Motorist Green Book.
It’s a surprise to many that Green Book won despite movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born which gave us a pure creative cinematic experience. People almost thought that Bohemian Rhapsody was going to take the Best Picture Award home.
So you’re telling me Green Book won best picture because a contingent of Oscars voters are mad at Netflix?
Roma is a masterpiece. Shame on the Academy.

The family of Don Shirley, the character played by Mahershala Ali, came forward to denounce the movie and its depiction of Don. The family claimed that the character was tailored to make the movie more commercially resounding.
To make it worse, Vigo Mortensen dropped the N-word during the movie’s Q&A session and writer of The Green Book, Nick Vallelonga making Islamophobic tweets.
For Greenbook the road to the #Oscars! started with Viggo dropping a racial slur at a presser, made a scenic stop in anti-Muslim tweets, took a pitstop in remember how Peter Farrelley whipped his dick out, and cruised right on into the biggest award of the night. What a ride.

It is so sad that this film won the Oscar for Best Picture, but what is even sadder is that it’s just not that surprising as movies less deserving were lauded with Academy Awards making no sense and people furious. Find the complete list of winners here
