The GMB host got on the plane on Sunday with all his protective gear safeguarding him from COVID-19.
He shot his last episode of Good Morning Britain prior to the summer and like every year he and his co-presenter Susanna Reid will be off till September.
Describing himself as ‘knackered and washed up’ Piers shared a pic on Instagram where he was seated on a flight facing close to the camera with a white face mask.
‘I’m a washed-up, knackered pathetic excuse for a celebrity… get me outta here. Bye Britain, it’s been… surreal’ he wrote in the caption.’
Though the presenter didn’t mention where he was going, it is assumed he might be off to his vacay abode in Los Angeles where he is often seen in summer.
Earlier on Wednesday Piers bid a heartfelt goodbye to Good Morning Britain crew post a busy schedule for months amidst pandemic. He started the post saying: ‘I do want to say to the backroom team here I think that… We sit here and we have done for months going through this extraordinary story, it has been the biggest story of any of our lifetimes with many repercussions.’
‘But, behind the scenes of Good Morning Britain, there is this enormous team of people all of who have been working unbelievable hours, a lot of self-sacrifices, not seeing families and so on.’
He added: ‘As we go off for a break, I want to say a big thank you to all the GMB behind the scenes team.’
‘We get the face time and the credit, whatever, but that team, I think we have produced honestly some of the best television journalism that anyone has done on this pandemic on this program.’
‘It is down to that team behind us getting all the stuff that we need to challenge the government, to find the people who give us all the hope and inspiration as well as all the untold misery and hell.’
Post sharing his gratitude to Dr. Hilary for his service he ended the show stating: ‘I have never been prouder to work on Good Morning Britain.’
Until September the show will be hosted by Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway.
