John Charles Carter fondly known as Charlton Heston is a leading actor born on 4th October 1923. Hailing from Evanston, Illinois he was a multifaceted actor who had a dynamic voice, chic look and enacted several historical and literary roles.
Heston started acting after he has opted for a school play and his experience in school helped him to get into Northwestern University. Later he shifted in 1946 to New York City and he first made his way to Broadway with Antony and Cleopatra in 1947. From then on he got into live television shows.
He entered movies through Dark City in 1950 but he got his recognition through “The Greatest Show on Earth in 1952” which was helmed by Cecil B. DeMille. The movie grabbed Academy Awards for the best movie and Heston was very much appreciated.
Charles portrayed Moses in Ten Commandments directed by DeMille. After becoming a prominent star he went on to do films for ace directors like Orson Welles in the movie Touch of Evil in 1958 and William Wyler for Ben-Hur in 1959, which won 11 Oscars and best actor award for Charles. The movie made him a premiere star for historical roles.
Other magnum opus movies he did were “Spanish warrior in El Cid (1961), Michelangelo in The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965), and John the Baptist in The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). Heston also played a U.S. military officer in 55 Days at Peking (1963), about the Boxer Rebellion.”
