As the city of California and Los Angeles County has given a nod to resume production in television and movies by June 12th the situation might become difficult to work amidst the novel coronavirus.
Rules were framed on June 1st by the ‘Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee Task Force’ on the latest safety procedures that are to be followed and it had been agreed by all the unions, guilds and workers and it has been sent to almost 50 state governors including Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo.
The employees should be provided with protective gadgets like masks, and a ‘COVID-19 “compliance officer”’ who should make sure that all precautions are followed on set, along with regular testing for employees and so on.
Further one of the sources said: “If a worker feels like they might be sick, they can’t be tempted to go to work because they need money. We can’t put financial need into the equation.”
Although Hollywood is waiting for the state’s suggestions on the white paper to decide on how the production will commence. The paper states: “several elements of the protocols, including testing and PPE, are subject to further discussion and agreement” among employers, unions, and guilds. “In our view, the white paper is a very solid platform from which to continue working out the detailed protocols that will allow work to resume,” says SAG-AFTRA COO and general counsel Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
