On Nov 17, 1978, there was a markable disturbance in the Force. After eighteen months of phenomenal success with Star Wars, CBS aired the Star Wars Holiday Special, one of the most infamous chapters in Saga. A new documentary explaining what really happened is expected by March mid.
The Hollywood Reporter is having the trailer of Disturbance in the Force. The documentary will debut at South by Southwest on March 11.
The special event Star Wars Holiday Special starring the original cast Han Solo(Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca(Peter Mayhew) on a flight to Wookiee home planet to celebrate a holiday Life Day. It is a two-hour event that aired once on CBS in 1978 and never again.
The special never aired again and George Lucas denounced it. He said in an Australian convention, “If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every bootlegged copy of the program and smash it.”
Disturbance in the Force will be explaining how and why the event was made in the first place.
There will be several interviews in the documentary with Seth Green, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Paul Scheer, Taran Killam, Donny Osmond, the late Gilbert Gottfried, Bonnie Burton, Steve Binder, and Bruce Vilanch, co-writer of the Star Wars Holiday Special.
