The buzz from this year’s Met Gala continues to ricochet through the gossip mill even after the dust has settled and the cameras have stopped flashing.
One of the co-chairs this year, Zendaya, dazzled in both a vintage Givenchy gown and a Maison Margiela, taking center stage twice. While this was going on, Gigi Hadid and Ayo Edebiri enthusiastically embraced the floral fantasy, paying homage to the reawakening fashion shown in the museum’s Sleeping Beauties display with each of their ensembles.
But amidst the glitz and glamor, there were notable absences that left fans yearning for more. The absence of Rihanna, a perennial Met Gala icon, left a Rihanna-shaped hole in our hearts, while Blake Lively’s absence left us longing for her signature style. Margot Robbie and Anne Hathaway, fixtures on the iconic steps in years past, were also noticeably missing in action, leaving us wondering what could have been. Speculators held their breath, hoping to catch a glimpse of the megastars, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, but were let down when they did not show up.
Even while the Met Gala this year was undoubtedly star-studded, it’s the noticeable absences that have people speculating as they keep their fingers crossed for the next year.
