The American who helped the Taliban

John Walker Lindh, the man who backstabbed the US in the Afgan war was released after serving 17 years of his 20-year sentence in prison.

Who is John Walker Lindh aka the American Taliban?

John Walker Lindh is from California. Inspired by the movie Malcolm X, he converted to Islam and left his country to learn Arabic and learn the Quran. In 2000, he traveled to Pakistan and then to Afghanistan.

He joined the Taliban on a day which no American would forget– September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists orchestrated by none other than Osama Bin Laden.

Failing to turn in Osama led to US troops laying siege on Afghanistan, who presumably were granting a safe haven to the global terrorist.

In late 2001, Lindh was captured in a battle with Northern Alliance fighters. He was part of the group of Taliban who killed Johnny Micheal “Mike” Spann, a CIA officer and interrogator. He was later captured and sentenced to 20 years in Prison. His capture on live TV made him a sensation

The US wants to rehabilitate incarcerated terrorists and prisoners of war, which is why he is being released 3 years early. And as per his jail reports, he had been well-mannered and federal inmates exhibiting orderly behavior serve only 85 percent of their sentence.

The authorities want to make an example out of Lindh by making him a test subject of sorts to see if rehabilitation and deradicalization of war criminals can work.
