Hilda Churchill, 108, a resident of Salford, who recently lost her life to Corona is the oldest survivor of the Spanish flu. Just hours after being tested positive, Hilda passed away at a home care facility in the city. To date, 29, 474 people in the UK have been infected by the virus.
The mother of 4 had worked as a seamstress after she moved to Salford. Most of her family members including her father and baby sister were killed in the 1918 pandemic. The respiratory virus that is said to have originated in a military base soon spread like forest fire infecting nearly 500 million people around the world. Stats reveal that it was about one-third of the world population.
Hilda is survived by 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
