Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, actresses of the iconic 1991 film Thelma & Louise, have reunited to mark the 30th anniversary of the film’s debut. The duo visited a Cinespia charity event at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where they saw a special drive-in charity showing of their now-classic picture. Davis and Sarandon took advantage of the loosened constraints, arriving in identical handmade t-shirts designed by a friend of Davis that read, “She’s My Thelma & I’m Her Louise” on Sarandon and, “I’m Her Thelma & I’m Her Louise” on Davis.
The cast also posed in a blue convertible, similar to the one they drove in the film’s memorable final sequence, where they were followed by cops to the edge of the Grand Canyon. To add to the thrill of the reunion, the actors posed in the same blue car they drove in the film’s iconic ending sequence, and the actresses even started a passionate kiss at one point!
Davis, 65, and Sarandon, 75, shone at the MGM and Cinespia-hosted gala at the famed Greek Theater. The film emphasized female empowerment, and the duo portrayed friends who flee after killing a guy who attempted to rape one of them. The script for “Thelma & Louise” won an Oscar in 1992, while Davis and Sarandon were both nominated for best actress in a starring role. The director, cinematography, and editing of the film were all nominated.
