Indonesia’s history of getting affected by the tsunami and volcanic eruptions is quite massive. Dec 22 marked one other addition to the list of disasters faced by the Southeast Asian country. It was a regular Saturday night and a local holiday when the volcanic activity by Anak Krakatau caused giant waves to sweep away the coastal towns of the Sumatra and Java islands.
Resulting in a death toll of 281, the monstrous phenomena also left more than 1000 injured. With apparently no tsunami warnings prior to the tragic happening, the people were hardly aware of what was about to happen. Residents close to the beaches have been evacuated and warnings have been signaled by the National Disaster Management Agency as the volcano has chances of erupting again anytime soon.
