Sony’s Uncharted surprised critics with a smashing box office success of $271 million worldwide.
Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed Uncharted game franchise finally released its live-action film over a decade from the initial announcement. Although critics addressed the movie as poorly-written, going as far as saying the movie didn’t do justice to the game, fans (even the die-hard ones) accepted the movie to be a good adaptation.
Deriving several sequences and plotlines from the game franchise—the cargo plane flight and the auction scene—Uncharted delivers a good origin story for the ambitious treasure hunter Nathan Drake, who boosted fans’ adrenaline.
Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg as Nate and his mentor Sully give the audience a fresh on-screen relationship. Eagle-eyed fans were given a pleasant surprise as Nolan North, the voice actor for Nathan Drake from the game franchise appeared in a small but memorable cameo. Setting up the climax with a possible sequel, Uncharted has the potential to become a fan-favorite adventure franchise.
