Watch Out For Rodents Salt Lake City Residents!

If you’re a Salt Lake Resident then watch out for this! The locality has been witnessing increased number rodents at their residences which could spread some infectious diseases to human beings.

As per the study by the (NPMA) National Pest Management Association, the capital of Utah has been on the top ten of the countries “for increased pest pressure from vector pests for the remainder of winter and into spring.”

Further, Jim Fredericks, a chief entomologist in NPMA stated that: “This winter, if you can call it to winter, has been so erratic that we’re seeing increases in pest pressure from populations otherwise dormant this time of year. Not only did early season snowfall and cold temperatures across the country drive rodents and cockroaches indoors early in search of food and shelter, but record-high temperatures nationwide in December through January allowed pest populations to sustain activity well past their normal seasonal decline.”

To avoid such diseases here are some tips:

• Add the door sweep outside your doors and make sure to fix your old or damaged screens.
• Ensure to have open screen vents and an opening to Chimney.
• If there are any holes or cracks on the exteriors make sure to close it as these vector insects enter through this.
• Food has to be kept in airtight boxes and ensure to dispose of garbage on a daily basis.
• All attics, basements and other spaces have to be dry and ventilated.
• Check pipes leaking, clogging drainages and wet places.
• If you feel the presence of any pests reach out to pest control and fix the problem.

A survey from NPMA states that: the topic on pests has been on the discussion by 21 million in Twitter in January 2020 alone. They also said that: “Rats were the number one health and home pest concern amongst Americans, closely followed by mosquitoes, ticks, and mice during that time.”
