In March 2020, Microsoft announced a big move that Bill Gates, its billionaire co-founder, would be stepping down from the Board to focus on his philanthropic activities such as global health, development, education, and climate change. He also got relieved from his board position in Berkshire Hathaway at the same time. The 65-year old business magnate decided to step down for a more valuable reason of dedicating his time to his recently founded ‘The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’ with the idea ‘every life has an equal value’ has been funding several programs in developing countries.

Mr. Gates, who remained Microsoft’s Chairman till 2014, has also left the board of Warren Buffet’s holding company, Berkshire Hathaway. “I am looking forward to this next phase as an opportunity to maintain the friendships and partnerships that have meant the most to me, continue to contribute to two companies of which I am incredibly proud, and effectively prioritize my commitment to addressing some of the world’s toughest challenges”.
The massive software empire started by Bill Gates along with Paul Allen in the year 1975 is now worth more than $700 billion and is headed by Satya Nadela.
