Belonging to one of the most endangered species, the death of the world’s oldest rhino caught the notice of animal activists and people around the world. A black rhino aged 57 died this Friday in the Tanzania Ngorongoro Crater. The Conservation Area Authority of Ngorongoro reported the incident to the world which made it to the headlines in minutes.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), these rhinos are closely monitored for being very close to become extinction. These endangered species account for just 2500 around the world which dropped 98% since 1995.
“Records show that Fausta lived longer than any rhino in the world and survived in the Ngorongoro, free-ranging, for more than 54 years” before bring moved to the sanctuary in 2016, Mangongi said on Saturday.
